A message from Wendy Carey P’12’13 (April 2012)
Dear Parents,

Last week, the Society of Families proudly hosted Sir Richard Branson, entrepreneur and founder of the Virgin Group, for the fifth Kerschner Family Series Global Leaders at Colgate. Sir Richard met privately with members of Thought Into Action (TIA), the Entrepreneurs Club, and the Benton Scholars to answer their questions. Then, he proceeded to a packed Sanford Field House, where he addressed the entire Colgate community. Parents, students, alumni, and friends were treated to a Q&A-style conversation, facilitated by President Jeffrey Herbst — you can read the details here.

Sir Richard’s appearance in Hamilton launched Entrepreneur Weekend, a series of conversations and presentations highlighting the business skills of Colgate students, parents, and alumni. In so many ways, it reinforced one of Sir Richard’s primary themes: build your venture on your passion, and you will position yourself for success.

For the past several weeks, students from the Colgate Annual Fund have been calling parents around the country to share their passion for our university. With a little more than two months remaining in the fiscal year, these remarkable undergraduates have made 2,001 calls and raised $103,000 toward our goal of $3.3 million. I want to take this opportunity to thank them for their effort and to thank you for giving. Calls will continue during the upcoming weeks, so if you have yet to receive yours, please be ready to lend your support to the Global Leaders at Colgate fund. Every dollar is crucial to the success of the Parents’ Fund in 2012.

I’d like to extend special congratulations to our Class of 2012 parents. The past four years have gone by in a blur, and commencement is just weeks away. I look forward to seeing you there — and to your continuing connection with Colgate long after your student receives a diploma.
