A Day in the Life

Colgate Thirteen visit the Twin Cities

More than 150 Colgate alumni, parents, and students gathered in Minneapolis, Minn., on Sunday, January 15, for a special performance by the Colgate Thirteen, Colgate’s all-male a cappella singing group. The evening was generously hosted by Bill ’75 and Sally Centner P’13, Jock ’79 and Sara ’82 Donaldson P’12, and Craig and Mary Jo Johnson P’12 at the Minikahda Club. It was a night full of great music and cheer that lifted everyone’s Colgate spirits on a cold winter’s night.

The Colgate Thirteen made the pit stop in the Twin Cities during their busy January tour of Canada. Driving 25 hours straight from Vancouver, B.C., to Minneapolis, they were welcomed with open arms by the large standing-room-only crowd. It was a bit of a homecoming for Will Centner, Sam Donaldson, and Carl Johnson, as all three are native sons of Minnesota. They and the other members of the Thirteen performed a 45-minute set that included staples like Runaround Sue, My Girl, Africa and It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me. The concert ended in an old fashioned sing-along as alumni of the Colgate Thirteen were welcomed onto the stage to join the group for the singing of the Alma Mater and Coney Island Baby.
