Colgate skewers Hamilton College during alumni challenge



The Colgate Annual Fund announced today that university grads from the past decade defeated their peers from Hamilton College during last month’s Colgate-Hamilton Recent Alumni Challenge. The final count read Colgate 754, Hamilton 676. The figure was adjusted for relative populations; Colgate’s actual number of gifts during March was a monstrous 1,124.

The rules of the competition were simple: compare annual fund participation rates during the month of March to find out which university had the most spirited, loyal recent alumni. While the lead swayed between both schools, Hamilton held the edge during the latter days of the contest. But, once the books officially closed and the numbers tallied, Colgate was victorious.

Al Ham, Hamilton College’s porcine mascot, responded to questions with a brief snort, which many on the scene interpreted as, “no comment.”

Sources close to Colgate’s pun-loving Raider say his confidence led to him declare privately that Hamilton would win, “when swine flew.” Publicly, however, he gave only his trademark smile, reflecting the pride felt by community members, nationwide.

In spite of partisan comments lobbed across the Oneida-Madison county line, both universities acknowledge that the real winners are current and future undergraduates. Victory parties, co-hosted by Colgate and Hamilton, will take place in Boston and New York City this month, giving participants a chance to shake hands (and cloven hooves) in person.
